The origins of the village Castiglione della Pescaia date back from the Roman period, as testified today by some important discoveries found along the banks of the river Bruna, in particular the ruins of the ancient Roman Villa Romana of Paduline, the town belonging to the family of Aldobrandeschi, which later passed under the control of the Monks of San Salvatore Abbey, to the family of Lambardi, the city of Pisa, the Republic of Siena, and finally, the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, with the noble family De’Medici.
